New Playground for Schwarzmühle: Generous donations and many helping hands create a central meeting point for families with children

The new adventure playground in Schwarzmühle made children’s eyes shine. On the eve of the first of May, the playground was officially inaugurated with a large village festival. The new playground equipment was financed exclusively by donations from resident companies and individuals. The small Thuringian community also showed great cohesion in the construction of the playground. About 15 community members built the two slides and numerous climbing machines over the course of just a weekend, so that the playground could already be inaugurated on April 30, 2017, during the annual May Day Festival of the village.

The main initiator of the project was Jens Henkel, Managing Director of the EPC Group, who started the ball rolling on his 50th birthday with a donation call. Only six months later the new adventure playground was opened. Numerous inhabitants from the surrounding communities came with their children for the May Day Festival in Schwarzmühle. Countless pairs of kids’ eyes were glowing when Jörg Peter, mayor of the community opened the playground and let them try out the equipment.

"With the new playground, we wanted to create a central gathering point for the numerous children of our community in this village," explains Jens Henkel, Managing Director of the EPC Group and member of the Schwarzmühle community. "In the past few years many families with children have moved to our village. With the new playground, we hope that they will be able to play together instead of alone at home with their computers. "

"There is hardly any empty house in Schwarzmühle and this should remain so in the coming years," added Mayor Jörg Peter. "We hope that the new adventure playground will bring more families to settle in our community, so that we can continue to grow.
